2 die, 4 injured as strong winds knock down tree in Madhopur

Two youths were killed and four others critically wounded when a tree fell down on them due to strong winds during a recruitment rally of Army in Madhopur town of Pathankot district today.

The youths had come to take part in the recruitment rally of a battalion of Territorial Army (TA) in Madhopur belt of Punjab early today, a Defence Spokesman said.

Ahead of the rally, they were waiting in the shed of a big tree. It was then knocked down by strong winds and fell on them, killing two youths and critically injuring four others, he said.

The injured persons were later hospitalised.
 

One of the deceased belonged to Himachal Pradesh and another belonged to Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, he said adding, that recruitment rally was later cancelled.
