2 die as cold wave persists in UP

Two persons died due to cold in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district in past 24 hours even as cold wave continued in the state.

While two persons, including a woman, reportedly died due to cold, a 55-year-old man was killed when the wall of a mud house collapsed due to rain in Barabanki district, sources said.

According to the MeT department, light to moderate rain or thundershowers occurred at few places over east UP and isolated over western parts of the state.

Rainfall recorded in Najibabad 5 cm, Bijnore 4 cm each, Nighasan 3 cm, Mawana, Dhampur, Chandpur, Sultanpur, Varanasi and Gorakhpur 2 cm each.
 

Dense to moderate fog enveloped few places over the state as cold conditions continued unabated.

Lowest minimum temperature was 7 degree Celsius recorded at Najibabad.

The night temperature fell appreciably in Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Agra, Meerut divisions, fell in Varanasi, Lucknow divisions and changed little in the remaining divisions over the state.

It was markedly above normal in Allahabad division, appreciably above normal over Varanasi, Faizabad, Jhansi, division and normal elsewhere over the state.

The department said that the weather would be mainly dry over the state.
