2 die of lightning in West Bengal

Two persons, including a class 11 student, died after being struck by lightning during heavy rains at Jaipur in Howrah district as rains lashed south Bengal this evening.

Two others, one of them a woman, suffered burn injuries in the incident and were undergoing treatment at a local hospital, a police officer said.

The four had taken shelter under a wooden bridge, connecting a canal, in the area during torrential rains when they were suddenly struck by the thunderbolt.

Villagers rushed to the spot and found all the four lying on the spot.

While two of them, including the 16-year old student, were declared dead at the nearby hospital, the remaining two were admitted and undergoing treatment, the officer said.
