Two employees of a gold merchant who allegedly hatched a conspiracy to dupe their employer of over Rs 75 lakh and meticulously planned a broad daylight robbery have been arrested, police said today.

The accused, Kuldeep Raj Verma (39) and Anuj Jain (30), used to take cues from popular TV show. They were aware of all cash transactions of the Old Delhi-based enterprise where they were employed and waited for the right opportunity for around six months, DCP (Southwest) Surender Kumar said.

On Saturday, Anuj called up police and informed that he was robbed at gunpoint by four persons in a car which intercepted his scooter while he was heading from one client to another after collection of Rs 75.50 lakh.

During interrogation, Anuj frequently kept changing the sequence of events and several inconsistencies were found in the details he could recall, pointing the needle of suspicion towards him. His locations were marked through technical analysis and there were stark discrepancy of facts.

On being subjected to sustained interrogation, he broke down. Police then conducted raid at the house of his accomplice Kuldeep and recovered the entire robbed amount, a senior official said.
