2 engineering students drown in swimming pool

Two engineering students of a private engineering college drowned in a swimming pool in Chander Nagar area of Ghaziabad, police said today.

Prateek Singhal and Utkarsh Arya, both aged 22 years and final year students of B.Tech at Ajay Kumar Garg Institute of Engineering and Technology, drowned in a swimming pool of Chander Nagar Recreation Club last night.

Singhal is from Mathura and Arya from Allahabad.

Secretary of the Club Committee Ajay Singh said that last night Singhal and Arya along with four other friends had come to the club for a swimming bout.

At about 8:50 PM, as other swimmers vacated the pool, the lifeguard on duty noticed the duo lying immobile in the waters.
 

They were immediately rushed to a private nursing home in East Delhi, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Yadav said autopsy is being conducted by Delhi Police.

"We are waiting for the autopsy report to come. No case has yet been registered so far," Yadav said.

The exact cause of their death is yet to be ascertained, he added.
