2 ex-PMs among leading politicians without cars in Pak

Pakistan's two former prime ministers are among a number of leading politicians who do not own a single personal car, according to their nomination papers filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan for the July 25 general elections.

Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani owns assets worth Rs 77.5 million but does not have any vehicle. Similarly, former premier Zafarullah Khan Jamali does not own a car, The News reported today.

Pakistan Peoples' Party Co-Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, one of the richest politicians as per his own nomination papers, does not own a single car. His net asset worth was Rs 1.54 billion in June 2017 and he even owns weapons worth Rs 3 million, the paper said.

 

However, Bilawal's father Asif Ali Zardari owns six bulletproof vehicles. His party's another leader and former Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah declared 17 cars jointly owned by his family.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan with his assets worth Rs 38.69 million also does not own a car as per his declaration, the paper said.

Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Maryam Nawaz mentioned no car in her assets which are worth Rs 845.95 million, it said.

PML-N chief and Punjab's former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif's son Hamza Shahbaz does not own a car despite having assets worth Rs 411.2 million, the paper said.

The heads of two top religious parties Jamat-e-Islami's Siraj-ul Haq and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also do not own any car, the paper added.

Awami National Party chief Asfand Yar Wali Khan owns assets worth Rs 40.1 million but his car is 1988 model Toyota Corolla which is now seen rarely especially in the parking lot of the parliament.
