Two former students were injured, one of them hospitalised, in a clash between two groups outside Gour Banga Viswa-vidyalay in Malda district this evening.

Eyewitnesses said the clashes broke out as the two, who were part of a group of ex-students, came out of the function and there was an argument with some other students standing outside.

The ex-students earlier took out a demonstration protesting the fixing of convocation certificate fee rate as Rs 1200 and came out of the campus after submitting a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, varsity sources said.

A section of varsity officials said the clashes took place between supporters of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad and the ex-students but there were no police confirmation.

"We heard about an incident in the area and inquiring into it," a police officer said.
