2 extortionists linked to Taliban arrested in Pak

Pakistani authorities today arrested two extortionists here linked to banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban after a tip off.

The Counter Terrorism Department(CTD) raided a house after receiving information about the presence of the extortionists in the area and arrested them, officials said.

According to CTD, both were involved in extortions, kidnapping and other criminal cases. They were also involved in a hand grenade attack on house of a doctor named Rizwan Ullah Khattak.

Recently, they had demanded Rs 10 million from a doctor as extortion.

The officials said they were shifted to undisclosed location for further investigation.

Separately, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have arrested more than 241 suspects including an Afghan national during search operations in different parts of the province.
 

According to a statement issued by police, the search and strike operations were conducted in Peshawar and other parts of the province.

The police said 62 Afghans nationals included among the 241 arrested during the operations.

The police have also searched 684 houses and 109 hotels during the operations and recovered weapons from some suspects.

FIR's have been registered against the suspects and investigations are on. The police also reviewed the security arrangements at 92 education institutions in the province.
