Security has been beefed up in north-east Delhi's Seemapuri area, a day after two families belonging to two different communities clashed and resorted to stone pelting in which eight people, including an elderly man, were injured, police said today.

Additional forces have been deployed in the area since yesterday to maintain peace after a clash between two families, they said.

According to police, the incident was first reported when a group of youths from both the families, residing at C-block, fought over a petty issue in which one of the youths was beaten up.

Initially, they said, the matter was resolved but the family members clashed again with yesterday which led to stone pelting between members of both communities during which eight people, including an elderly man, sustained injuries.

Additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain peace.

A case under sections of rioting, preventing a police personnel from conducting his duty and attempt to commit culpable homicide has been registered and six people have been detained for questioning, police said.
