Two officials attached to the Chhattisgarh Rural Engineering Service department and a retired headmaster of a government school were arrested for allegedly withdrawing funds from the state exchequer through fake invoices in Raigarh district, police said today.

"Sub-Divisional Officer SN Sidar, deputy engineer Rajesh Tiwari and retired headmaster S Ekka were apprehended last evening in connection with the alleged fake bills scam," Station House Officer, Chakradhar police station, DL Mishra told PTI.

According to the SHO, the trio allegedly defrauded the state exchequer to the tune of Rs 12,134 by preparing fake invoices towards the purchase of fans and tubelights and maintenance of electricity connection at a government primary school in Koyalanga village in April this year.

Sidar and Tiwari had colluded with Ekka and cleared the fake bills, Mishra said.

After finding that no work has been done in the school through the sanctioned funds, Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission officials had lodged a complaint against them with the Chakradhar police station.

The trio were today produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate GK Neelam, who rejected their bail plea and sent them to 14-day judicial custody, he said.
