2 govt officials sentenced to 1 year rigorous imprisonment

The designated CBI court judge B K Srivastava passed the order sentencing the senior telecom officer Mahendra Prasad to one year's rigorous imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 1500 after finding him guilty of the charge under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Prasad was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 300 from a STD booth operator Jayant Kumar Vishwakarma in Patna in March 2006, the prosecution said.

Another designated CBI court judge B N Singh convicted the then Deputy-Postmaster Ramesh Kumar Ram to one year rigorous imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000 after finding him guilty.

Ram was arrested on November 30, 2006 for taking a bribe of Rs 500 from Vinod Kumar Singh for transferring the Kisan Credit Card in the latter's name.
