for allegedly cheating a number of retired or serving engineers and officials on the pretext of getting them consultancy jobs in various projects, police said here today.
Virendra Kumar (47) and Mahendra Pal (52) were arrested yesterday from a hotel in Rajendra place following a complaint by Rani Bagh resident Ramesh Chander, police said.
"Kumar and Pal along with their brother and nephew had been running the racket for the past 10 months and had cheated several retired or serving engineers on the pretext of providing consultancy jobs for their fictitious projects. They have earned over Rs 20 lakh from gullible engineers," Central District ACP Devesh Chandra Srivastva said.
Chander, along with other victims, had filed a complaint that two persons who introduced themselves as Ashok Kaushik and Rastogi Vinod Gupta had cheated them of several lakhs of rupees by falsely promising them to provide consultancy in various fictitious projects of private companies.
The accused used to call them at some good hotels in Karol Bagh and New Delhi area and would fix meeting for discussion of terms and conditions of the projects.
"One of the accused used to become friendly with the victim and lured him to arrange high consultancy commission (six per cent) from their boss and ask them to give one per cent advance money as his commission. The victim used to give one per cent of the total amount of the project, which used to range between Rs 50,000 and Rs 6.5 lakh," the ACP said.
