The police today arrested two persons on the charge of kidnapping a one-and-a-half-year old girl from Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharswan district.

Akash Mukhi (20) and Amar Kumar Pan (19), both residents of Muffasil police station limit in West Singhbhum district, were arrested today on charges of kidnapping the minor girl, who was rescued safely within 12 hours of the incident, said Superintendent of Police, Indrajeet Mahatha.

Mahatha said Akash had entered in the house of Rani Mukhi, who was alone at home along with her daughter, on Tuesday and introduced himself as a distant relative.

A few moments later, Akash picked up the girl and took her away on the pretext of purchasing biscuit for her from a nearby shop.

When he did not return, Rani suspected some foul play and searched Akash's bag left at home and found a letter demanding Rs one lakh as ransom, Mahatha said.

The abductors also made calls demanding the amount.

Following a complaint, the police formed a special team that conducted raids in possible hide outs.

Under pressure, Akash and his accomplice dropped the kidnapped girl at one of her relative's place under Adityapur police station limits on Tuesday night and fled only to be arrested today, Mahatha added.
