Two persons have been held for allegedly stealing 17 sports utility vehicles valued at Rs two crore, police said today.

Acting on a complaint, police nabbed the duo who fraudulently posted advertisements that several sports utility vehicles were required for transporting huge cash for public sector banks, a police release said.

The duo lured the victims promising that they would get a monthly income of Rs 1 lakh.

Trusting their words, 16 persons offered to provide 17 SUVs, the release said, adding as directed by one of the accused they parked their cars at his office.

The duo asked them to come in white uniform on March 3 to fit GPS facility in all the vehicles. But the victims who went to the office on that date were shocked to see the cars missing and the office was locked.
