2 held for stealing oil from underground pipeline

Two members of a gang were arrested for allegedly stealing oil from an underground pipeline of the Indian Oil in Burdwan district.

Acting on a tip off, police raided Jubila More under Raina police station where the gang members were stealing oil from the pipeline late last night, SDPO Amlan Kusum Ghosh said today.

The police seized a tanker with 600 litre oil, an MUV, and equipment to steal oil.

While two persons were arrested from the spot near a road connecting Badulia, Berugram, and Pitch Rasta, several others managed to flee, Ghosh said.

After interrogating the arrested two, identified as Sailen Samanta of Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas district and Samsul Molla of Raina in Burdwan district, the police are trying to apprehend the other members of the gang.
 

Burdwan Chief Judicial Magistrate Salim Ahmed Ansari remanded Samanta and Molla to three days' police custody.
