2 held for trying to illegally exchange demonetised notes

The police today arrested two builders carrying over Rs 12 lakh in demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes from Baguiati area near here.

The two were picked up following a tip off while they were waiting for a person who was supposed to exchange their cash for legal currencies, police said.

Bidhannagar Police arrested them after Harsh Baid and Lalit Baid failed to produce any document about the source of the Rs 12,20,000 they were carrying inside a car.

The two was scheduled to meet an 'agent' and pay him 30 per cent as commission for exchanging the said amount for legal currencies, police said.
 

The car from which the cash was found was also seized.
