Two persons suspected to be the members of an international turtle-smuggling gang have been arrested by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police with rare 23 "red-crowned roof turtles".
"Ajay Singh and Deependra Singh who are active members of international turtle smuggling gang were arrested in Agra yesterday by the STF with 23 rare red-crowned roof turtles," an STF release issued here said.
During their interrogation, the duo, confessed they used to catch the rare turtles, found in the Yamuna and the Chambal rivers, and sell it in Chennai and Kolkata, it said.
The STF said a probe in the matter is on and they are trying to elicit more information about the gang from the duo.
