2 held in Delhi for village head's murder in Bihar

In a joint operation, Delhi and Bihar police teams have arrested two persons for allegedly gunning down of a woman village head (Mukhiya) in Nalanda district in Bihar, from north West Delhi's Ashok Vihar area.

Balram Prasad (42), had hired the contract killer Santosh Yadav (26) for gunning down head of Kolma Panchayat in Nalanda, Poonam Devi and the duo had shot her dead on June 10, said Vijay Singh, DCP(north west).

An FIR was registered by police on the complaint of Indrajit Singh, the victim's husband. Poonam Devi had won the election of village head by defeating Balram's wife by 28 votes on June 3.
 

The complainant alleged the his wife was shot dead due to political rivalry, the officer said.

Following the case, a team of Bihar Police approached their counterparts in Delhi seeking arrest of the two accused who were learnt to be hiding in Ashok Vihar.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Santosh was hired by Balram for eliminating Poonam Devi. Santosh is a contract killer wanted in connection with two murder cases in his home state and declared proclaimed offender in the same, he added.

The accused have been taken back to Nalanda by Bihar Police on a transit remand.
