2 held, over 170 cartons of liquor being taken to Noida seized

The Delhi Police today said it has arrested two persons and seized from them over 170 cartons of liquor which were being transported to Noida where polling in the first of the seven phased UP Assembly elections will be held tomorrow.

Acting on a tip-off that a tempo carrying huge quantity of liquor from Haryana will pass through Chilla check post, barricades were raised on Noida Link Road last night and a vehicle coming from Akshardham Mandir side was stopped for checking, DCP (east district) Omvir Singh said.

During search of the vehicle, 32 cartons of whiskey and 145 cartons of country made liquor, which were made for sale in Haryana only, were seized, the officer said.
 

Vijay Pal, who was driving the vehicle, and Bhupender Singh, both residents of Haryana's Rohtak area were arrested, he said.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused were supplying these cartons of liquor in Noida where polling will be held tomorrow, the DCP said, adding a case was registered against them under the Delhi Excise Act at Mayur Vihar Police Station.
