2 held with opium worth Rs 1.4 cr in Palghar

Two persons were Friday arrested for allegedly possessing drugs worth over Rs 1.40 crore in Palghar district, police said.

Waliv police in the district intercepted a sports utility vehicle from which they seized 1.24 kilogrammes of opium worth Rs 6.20 lakh and 69 kgs of opium powder worth Rs 1.38 crore in the illicit market, an official said.

"Sonaram Bishnoi (33) and Bhajanlal Bishnoi (22) were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further probe into the drug network is underway," he added.
