Two employees of a road construction contractor were arrested today with Rs one lakh cash meant for payment to a Maoist operative in Bihar's Munger district, the police said.

Acting to a tip off, the police intercepted Kampani Sao and Amar Kumar, employees of the contractor, while they were walking towards Amrasani forest within the limits of Dharhara police station with Rs one lakh to be paid to a self-styled CPI(Maoist) area commander as extortion money, district Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashish Bharti said.

The cops seized three mobile phones and a diary from the two men, he said.

Raids were on in Kajra forest in neighbouring Lakhisarai district to nab the fugitive Maoist who fled in the jungles using the local people as shield and firing at the policemen chasing him, the SP added.
