Two home guards have died in Odisha's Malkangiri district after falling sick in the wake of participating in a feast, police said today.

Raghunath Pujari (28) and Bishnu Majhi (30) of Gobindapali outpost under Mathili police station died during treatment at the district headquarter hospital here late last night, said Inspector In-Charge of Malkangiri police station, R K Das.

The duo had complained of vomiting, severe stomach ache and nausea yesterday afternoon after the feast.

They were first taken to Mathili hospital and later shifted to the district headquarter hospital here, he said.

On being asked if consumption of spurious liquor could be a reason behind the deaths, Das said the exact cause can be ascertained only after the postmortem.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem and investigation is in progress, he added.
