Two persons were injured today when the Shri Ganganagar Haridwar Express hit an excavator near Dukheree village, close to Ambala Cantoment at an unmanned rail crossing here.

Due to the accident, traffic on Ambala-Saharnpur rail section was distrupted for some time.

The excavator was crossing the track at the unmanned railway junction when it was hit by the train going toward Haridwar from Ambala cantonment, a railway official said.

The train was moving at a slow speed as it had started its onward journey from Ambala Cantonment, but despite the train driver applying the brakes, it hit the excavator.

The driver and the helper of the excavator sustained injuries after their vehicle overturned and were admitted to the Civil hospital at Ambala Cantonment.

Senior railway officers rushed to the site after the accident. The rail traffic was resumed after some time, the official said.
