Two persons, including a retired teacher, were injured when a gang of four dacoits opened fire on the villagers in a bid to escape after raiding the teacher's house in Chauki village in Bidhnu area of the district in the wee hours of today, police said.

According to police, four dacoits entered the house of the retired teacher, Rambilas Singh, at around 2 AM through the roof and robbed the valuables.

When 62-year-old Singh and his son, Samarjeet, tried to resist the loot bid, the dacoits attacked them and opened fire in which Singh sustained bullet injuries, SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said.

Despite being injured the father and son made cries for help when the dacoits were trying to escape, but hearing their cries villagers gathered outside the teacher's house and after a brief chase caught a dacoit, identified as Shyambabu, he said.

Finding themselves surrounded by the villagers, the dacoits started firing indiscriminately, in which a 17-year-old youth Amit Vishwakarma sustained gun shot injuries, and the three dacoits managed to escape.

Both the teacher and Vishwakarma were admitted to the hospital, where condition of the youth is stated to be serious, the official said.

The family has claimed that cash and jewellery worth lakhs have been looted by the dacoits.

Tiwari said, Shyambabu, a resident of Fatehpur district, was being questioned and two police teams have been formed to nab others.
