Two IRB jawans from Nagaland were arrested and illegal timber worth Rs three lakh seized from them in upper Assam's Jorhat district today, police sources said.

The two India Reserve Battalion jawans were travelling in a truck with the timber from Naphu Basti in Nagaland's Mokokchang district towards Dimapur of that state through Assam, which is the only route connecting the two places.

The sources said local people saw the two jawans stealing a goat on their way near Kathalguri tea estate and informed the concerned Moriani police station.

As they were passing by, the security men there stopped the IRB men and seized their truck along with the timber, the sources said.

The duo were arrested and identified as Bhim Bahadur Chetri and Surjya Chetri.
