2 JEs of Military Eng Services arrested by CBI for graft

CBI has arrested two Junior Engineers of Military Engineering Services posted at Allahabad for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs two lakh for clearing pending bills of a private firm.

According to the agency spokesperson, the case was registered on a complaint of a contractor who had alleged that the JEs posted at the office of Garrison Engineer (East), Allahabad were demanding Rs two lakh for clearing pending bills of his firm.

"It was alleged in the complaint that the JE had demanded a bribe of Rs two lakhs from the supervisor of complainant's firm, for processing his pending bills as well as commission for the bills already cleared by him," CBI spokesperson said.
 

The agency laid a trap and arrested the duo.

"At the time of raid, the accused had allegedly accepted the bribe from the supervisor and handed over the money to his colleague, another JE," the official said.

She said search of office almirah of accused JEs led to further recovery of Rs 2.08 lakh and some incriminating documents were also recovered during the search.
