2 killed, 12 injured in road accident in AP

Two persons were killed and twelve others were seriously injured when their van was knocked down by a speeding lorry on National Highway no. 16 at Jaggampeta in East Godavari district, police said today.

The victims, all hailing from Surangavaram village of Shankhavaram mandalam, were going in the van to a hotel after visiting Knadragula lake last night when their vehicle was hit by the lorry coming from the opposite direction, Jaggampeta police station inspector GVV Satyanarayana said.

One of the victims, Puli Krishna (40), died on the spot while the other one, identified as Puli Nagaswara Rao (27), succumbed to his injuries when he was being shifted to a hospital, they said.
 

Another person, who received head injuries, has been admitted to Government General Hospital in Kakinada and his condition is stated to be critical, he added.

The other injured persons, including the van driver, were admitted to Padapuram Government Hospital, he said.

The lorry driver fled from the spot, police said adding that a search was on to nab him and a probe was underway into the accident.
