2 killed as Audi collides with taxi in Mumbai

An Audi driven by a lady lawyer rammed a taxi, resulting in death of two people including the taxi driver on the Eastern Freeway here in the early hours today, police said.

The lawyer, identified as Janhvi Gadkar, 35, who was later arrested, appeared to be in an inebriated condition at the time of accident, they said.

A local court remanded her in three-day police custody.

Mumbai police spokesperson and deputy commissioner of police Dhananjay Kulkarni said, "There was head-on collision in two cars coming from opposite sides and two persons were killed."

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Abdul Sayyad (55) and Mohammad Salim Sabuwala (50).
 

Dilip Raut, senior police inspector of RCF police station said, "Two co-passengers also received serious injuries when Janhavi, who was at the wheels rammed her car in the taxi on the Eastern Freeway near RCF."

"Prima-facie she was found to be under influence of alcohol and a case under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act and IPC has been registered in this connection", he said.

"We have collected the blood sample of the accused," another official from RCF police station said.

Meanwhile, Mumbai police said that they would intensify vigil at entry and exit points of Eastern Freeway which connects Chembur to south Mumbai.
