Two persons were killed and one seriously injured after a speeding truck collided head on with a motorcycle in the Jamalpur area of the district today.
Soumen Chattopadhyay (44), his wife Mahua Chattopadhyay and their son Abigyan (8) were going to a relative's place in Srikrishnapur area of Jamalpur from their residence near Kalna Gate in Burdwan town, the accident happened, the police said.
"All three were wearing helmets, but when the motorcycle collided with the sand laden truck, both father and son came under the wheels of the truck and were crushed. They died on the spot. The woman, who was grievously injured was first rushed to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, but was later on shifted to SSKM hospital in Kolkata after he condition deteriorated," said a senior police officer.
The killer truck has been confiscated, but the driver managed to flee, the police added.
