An Audi driven by a lady lawyer rammed a taxi, resulting in the death of two people including the driver, on the Eastern Freeway here early today, police said.

The lawyer, identified as Janhvi Gadkar (35), appeared to have been drunk at the time of accident, they said, adding that she was arrested by RCF police and a local court remanded her in three-day police custody.

Dilip Raut, senior police inspector of RCF police station, said, "Two people (driver and a passenger) died and two other passengers in the taxi received serious injuries when Janhvi's car hit the taxi."

The accident took place at around 1 am.

"Prima-facie she was found to be drunk, hence relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code have been invoked against her," he said. Further probe is on.
