2 killed in accident in Mathura, locals block road in protest

Two men were killed in a road accident here today, with angry locals blocking the Barsana Chhatta road for more than an hour to protest against the delay in arrival of the police.

The accident took place when the motorcycle the men were riding on was allegedly hit by a speeding car at the Khayara village curve, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Ghamandi Singh (40) and Pradeep (28) of district Bharatpur, they said.

According to a police official, Ghamandi Singh, along with his friend Pradeep, was on his way to the house of his father-in-law in Bhadawal village here.
 

The accident sparked anger among passersby and the local who blockaded the road for more than an hour, as the accused driver managed to flee with his car, senior police officials said.

"The blockade was lifted when the villagers were assured of prompt action against car driver," Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Dhar Gaur said.
