At least two persons were killed and 26 others were injured when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a ditch at Monteswar in West Bengal's Burdwan district today.

The Burdwan-Nabadwip private bus fell into the ditch this evening, filled with rain water, as the driver lost control due to heavy rains and darkness, a senior police officer said

As the locals immediately started rescue operations the passengers were brought out but two of them were already dead, police said.

Police personnel soon joined the locals but by that time the rescue was in full swing.

Twenty-six others were rushed to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital and three of them were stated to be in critical condition, the officer said quoting hospital doctors.
