2 killed in Uttarakhand road mishap

Two persons were today killed and eight injured when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a 150 metre deep gorge near Kanalichhina in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control over the jeep while taking a turn and the vehicle fell into the gorge, police said, adding the vehicle was on the way to Pithoragarh from Dharchula.

While two persons died on the spot, the eight injured have been admitted to the district hospital.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed condolences over the death in the accident while the district administration said that compensation would be paid to the family of the victims immediately.
