2 killed, public property worth crores damaged in heavy rain

At least two persons have been killed and public property estimated to be worth over Rs 15 crore damaged due to heavy rain that lashed the Palamau district in the last a few days, officials said today.

Among others, three bridges in the district have also been damaged including two in Sonpurwa under Panki block and Utari, which have been caved in due to incessant rain, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar told PTI.

Two women were also killed in the swelling waters of the Amanat river, he said, adding the bodies have been recovered.

One road diversion on river Durgawati was also washed away in the district, Kumar said.
 

The loss figure may go up following the final assessment, the officer added.
