2 lakh devotees visit temple on Adi Amavasya day

: About two lakh devotees visited Sri Ramanathaswamy temple here on the auspicious 'Adi Amavasya' day today, temple officials said.

They said pilgrims gathered at Agni theertham seashore, took a holy dip in the sea and offered prayers to their forefathers. Later they offered pooja at the temple, which was opened for devotees at 3:00 AM.

The devotees also took bath in the 22 water sites at the temple. The presiding deity Lord Ramanathaswamy was brought to the sea shore on a 'Garuda Vahana' where Theerthavari was held

Elaborate security arrangements had been made for the day and government had operated special buses on the occassion.
