A two-member delegation led by Karnataka Transport Commissioner Maruti Sambrani today called on his Punjab counterpart Harjit Singh to study "good practices and reforms" initiated by the State Transport Department so that these could be replicated in Karnataka.
The delegation comprising Sambrani and Regional Transport Officer Ashfaq Ahmed was impressed by the State Transport Department's implementation of e-governance, a government spokesperson said.
The delegation was told that Punjab had been elevated from 17th position in the country in 2010-11 to second position this year for implementation of transport reforms and usher in overall development and efficiency in the department's functioning, the spokesperson said.
Lauding e-governance reforms implemented by the department, the delegation said the reforms would soon be implemented in Karnataka to enhance efficiency and profitability in transport sector there.
Additional State Transport Commissioner Harmail Singh told the delegation that several initiatives like dealer point registration and online tax payment have been implemented to improve the department's functioning.
Punjab government would soon launch a scheme for issuing learner driving licence after a compulsory computerised test, in which the applicant has to secure at least 60 marks out of 100 as an eligibility criteria for securing the licence, he said.
