Two members of All Party Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC), including its Chairman, were taken into preventive detention in Ramban district while they were on their way to a newly-discovered cave, claimed to be an ancient shrine of Lord Shiva.
APMCC Chairman Vinod Pandit and national spokesperson King C Bharti were not allowed to move towards the cave shrine of Lord Shiva in Banihal belt of the district from Ramsoo area today, a police officer told PTI.
They were taken into preventive detention.
"It was very difficult for police to provide them security in view of it being highly militancy prone and forested area," he said, adding that it was the reason were not allowed to move forward.
Authorities have written to Archaeology Survey of India (ASI) to undertake research of the newly discovered cave, the officer said, adding we have sealed the area from external interference.
Talking to PTI from Ramban area, Bharti said that they were asked by the Magistrate to return to Jammu.
"We were not going to the cave shrine but to meet some religious heads of the community to set up a committee to oversee the arrangement of prayers at the shrine," Bharti said.
APMCC had performed pooja at the cave shrine on first day of Navratra on April 11.
Set amid the Pir-panchal mountain ranges, the cave with Shiv lingam and idols has been claimed to have been discovered by a shephard at an altitude of 11000 feet.
