Two persons were arrested with 200 cartons of illegal liquor, worth about Rs 10 lakh, which were being allegedly smuggled for supply during the upcoming panchayat polls.
A truck coming from Haryana to Uttar Pradesh was intercepted last evening near Ahmedgarh in Shamli district on Karnal highway and 200 cartons of illegal liquor, worth about Rs 10 lakh, were seized from it, Superintendent of Police Vijai Bhushan said.
The two smugglers have been identified as Jogendra and Naveen Kumar, both residents of Haryana, Bhushan said.
They have confessed that they were smuggling the liquor for supply during Panchayat polls, the SP said.
