2 more die of swine flu in Himachal Pradesh, toll rises to 5

Two more persons have succumbed to swine flu in Himachal Pradesh, raising the toll due to the H1N1 virus to five in the state, officials said today.

A 34-year-old woman, identified as Meera from Nirmand in Kullu district, who was admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) hospital here on February 20, died today while Sumitra Devi (64) from Guler in Kangra district died at Tanda Medical College last evening. She was admitted to Government R P Medical College at Tanda on February 20 but could not recover, State Surveillance Officer Dr Rajesh Guleri said.

He said that three more persons have tested positive for swine flu at IGMC, raising the total number of patients to 25 (including five deaths).
 

Out of 20 patients, five have recovered and were discharged while ten patients were admitted at IGMC and five at Tanda, the official said.

In all, 94 blood samples of suspected swine flu patients were tested and 69 tested negative, he said, adding that sufficient tablets of Tamiflu are available in all hospitals and a video conference of Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) would be held tomorrow to review the situation.
