Singaporean budget carrier Tigerair today announced the launch of two additional flights on Singapore-Chennai route from December, taking the total number of services on the sector to nine.

"Tigerair currently operates seven weekly flights between Chennai and Singapore. Beginning December 4, Tigerair will operate two additional weekly flights between Chennai and Singapore," the airline said in a statement.

The no-frills airline, which would add the two flights from Chennai to Singapore on Fridays and Saturdays, currently operates 36 weekly flights to Singapore from five Indian destinations.

Commenting on the increase in frequency on the sector, Tigerair's Commercial Director Robert Yang said it was aimed at ensuring more convenience to passengers.

"The decision to increase frequencies to Chennai is in line with the upsurge in travel demand. The increased flights will give travellers from India a greater option and opportunity to visit beautiful Singapore," he said.

With a fleet of Airbus A-320 family aircraft, the Group operates flights to over 50 destinations across Asia-Pacific region, apart from China, Australia, Maldives and Philippines.
