2 passengers injured in daylight train robbery in Kerala

In a daring daylight train robbery, a couple travelling in a coach reserved for disabled in a New-Delhi-bound train were allegedly attacked and injured and relieved of their valuables by two persons who escaped by pulling the emergency chain near here today.

The incident occurred on board Kerala Express as it reached between Kuruppanthara and Kothanallur, about 10 km from here. The couple's child was left unharmed and there were no other passenger in the coach at the time of the attack, police said.

The injured passengers -- Mohammed Nisar and his wife Hayarunnisa -- have been admitted to a nearby private hospital where the condition of the woman was stated to be serious as she fell unconscious in the attack.
 

Belonging to Kallambalam in Thiruvananthapuram, they were travelling to a place near here along with their child in the coach reserved for disabled passengers, police said.

The culprits made away with their valuables, including bags, money and mobile phones.

A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants, police said.
