2 persons arrested with illicit liquor in J-K

Two persons were arrested and large quantity of illicit liquor was recovered from their possession in Jammu and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir in separate incidents, a police spokesperson said today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team yesterday subjected a man for checking at the general bus stand here and recovered 50 pouches of illicit liquor from his possession, he said.

The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Bari Brahamana here, was carrying illicit liquor to be sold in the Katra town on exorbitant rates as sale of liquor is banned there, the spokesperson said.

A case under relevant sections of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused with Bus Stand police and investigations are on, he said.
 

In another incident, one Raj Kumar, resident of Radma village in Samba district, was yesterday arrested from his house after police recovered 12 liters of country-made liquor from his possession, the spokesperson said.

A case has been registered in this regard and investigations are underway, he further said.
