2 persons shot, robbed of Rs 9.6 lakh

In a daring daylight robbery here, two employees of a transportation company were robbed of Rs 9.6 lakh after being shot at by unidentified miscreants, police said.

According to police, the two injured persons, identified as Siddharth Banerjee (60) and Kailashnath Sharma (30), had gone to deposit the money at a Bank of India branch in the city when they were attacked by masked assailants, one of whom fired at them.

As both fell down injured, the assailants snatched the bag and fled the spot.

Police said that the injured duo have been admitted to a private hospital where Banerjee's condition is stated to be critical.
 

Police said they have recovered three used cartridges from the scene of the crime and added that they had opened a probe into the matter.
