2 PRTC workers try to immolate

Two Pepsu Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) workers here today tried to immolate themselves in protest against the appointment of H S Dhillon as General Manager of the depot.

PRTC workers were protesting at the gate of depot against the management when some workers owing allegiance to Dhillon clashed with them and one of the worker got injured, police said.

The injured worker has been admitted to the local civil hospital, they said.

Following the clash, two workers identified as Baljinder Singh and Jiwan Singh sprinkled diesel on themselves and tried to immolate themselves.

While Baljinder was saved by the timely intervention of employees but Jiwan Singh received more than fifty per cent burn injuries and has been admitted to the local civil hospital where his condition is stated to be critical, police said.
 

Balbir Singh Boparai President PRTC workers' union alleged that Dhillon was transferred one month ago on their complaint and the management again appointed him as General Manager of the depot and the workers were demanding his transfer from Kapurthala depot.

Police is investigating the case and no case has been registered so far.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress staged a walkout in the on-going assembly session at Chandigarh, seeking registration of abatement to suicide case against the government.
