2 salesmen arrested for selling fuel at exorbitant rates

A petrol pump was seized and two of its salesmen were arrested today for selling fuel at exorbitant rates in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, police said.

Police raided the petrol pump at Chowalgam, 70 km from here, after receiving complaints that the owner was selling diesel and petrol at exorbitant rates, a police spokesman said.

He said the police party found that the petrol pump owner was selling diesel at the rate of Rs 55.33 per litre and petrol at the rate of Rs 65.47 per litre which was higher than the market value of Rs 53.70 per litre for diesel and Rs 63.64 per litre for petrol.
 

The petrol pump was seized and two salesmen were arrested.

The owners of the petrol pump - Farooq Ahmad and Mukhtar Ahmad - fled.

A case has been registered, the spokesman said.
