Two alleged smugglers were today arrested from a train at the railway station here and silver jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh was seized from them, GRP sources said here.

Sanjeev Kumar and Manoj Kumar from Rohtas in Bihar were arrested from S-3 coach of Ajmer-Sealdah Express and silver weighing over 71 kgs was recovered from their possession, GRP Circle Officer Surendra Tiwari said.

On receiving information about a molestation case, a police team reached the coach, but the suspect had fled by then, Tiwari said.

However, the duo, who was travelling with two big bags, started behaving suspiciously, he said.

Police searched them and found over 71 kg of silver jewellery from the two bags, he said.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to smuggle silver ornaments from Agra and sell them to a man in Sasaram, Bihar.

They have been arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the IPC, Tiwari said, adding that further probe is going on.
