At least two soldiers were today killed and two others injured as militants opened fire on a vehicle checking party of the army in central Kashmir's Budgam district.
"Four soldiers were injured in the firing incident at Chattergam in Budgam district today. Two of the injured were declared brought dead at the hospital," an army spokesman said here.
Giving details of the incident, the spokesman said a joint vehicle checking team of the army and police flagged a private car to stop at Chattergam, 16 km from here, at around 5:00 PM.

"The militants travelling in the car opened fire on the security forces resulting in the casualties," he said.
The assailants then fled leaving behind the car, he said, adding efforts were on to nab the militants.
Meanwhile, police officials said an alert has been sounded in Budgam and neighbouring Pulwama district following the incident.
No militant outfit claimed responsibility for the attack immediately.
