"Each man had 10 gold biscuits weighing 100 grams inside his rectum," Gamini said. "They were easily spotted because they appeared to be in pain and could not walk properly."
Sri Lankan customs officials said they have stepped up alert for smuggling gold to India after the country raised gold import duties.
On Monday some seven Indian-bound passengers were arrested when X-rays showed "metal objects" in their stomachs.
"They were six Indians and one Sri Lankan," Gamini said.
Two of them have passed four pieces of gold after being given laxatives, others are still under observation.
