The Centre's proposal for setting up a film institute in the Northeastern region to tap the cinematic talents of the youth has got a major boost with two states coming forward to offer land for the purpose.
The governments of Manipur and Meghalaya have expressed their interest in extending land for the initiative of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, told PTI that his ministry officials would visit the states that have offered land and other facilities, and a judicious decision would be taken in this regard.

"Our team will be now visiting the states, which are offering the land and other facilities. We will take a judicious decision on it," Javadekar said.
He also exuded confidence that other states from the region would follow the suit.
"We have written to all the Chief Ministers. Two (states) have already made the offer and met me. Others will also do it, I am sure. But, we will take a judicious call on the location of the film institute," he added.
Presently, the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute at Kolkata duly provides a platform for students from the Northeastern region to harness their talents in the domain of film making.
A film institute in one of the Northeastern states is expected to give a fillip for the local youths who are stuffed with outstanding skills in film making, the minister said.
While the number of films made in Manipuri language every year is around 60, Arunachal Pradesh is also producing films.
'Crossing Bridges', the first film to be made in the Sherdukpen language of Arunachal Pradesh, had won national award for 2013.
