Police sources said acting on a tip off that certain arms procurers of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were in the city to finalize a huge arms deal with arms dealers from Manipur, a force raided a hotel and picked up the duo.

They were identified as Adbil Ch Marak and Maybin Ch Marak of Tura and Jenjal in West Garo Hills district.

A sum of Rupees six lakh was seized from their possession, which police claimed, was meant for an arms consignment.

Both were produced in court today and remanded to 10 days' police custody.

The Centre has declared the GNLA a terror outfit in this January for their involvement in kidnapping, extortion and killing of both civilians and security personnel in the three Garo Hills districts.
